Tuesday 15th July - Edinburgh & The Witch's Tour

Tuesday 15th - Witches Tour, Edinburgh & Deacon Brodie

A drizzly rainy day

Today was the day for me to return the Mercedes to Avis at the airport in the morning, and “The Witches Tour “in Edinburgh on The Royal Mile at 1:30 pm. Besides that James wanted to have lunch in Edinburgh at one of his favourite haunts. This meant that we had to leave at 9:30 am to fit everything in.

Julia decided to come with me, but we would follow James as he knew where to stop near the airport so that I could buy petrol. Then I could return the car full and avoid the expensive charges if Avis had to top it up. In the end we lost track of James near the airport and decided not to worry about the petrol. Returning the cars was much easier than I expected so we were out of there really quickly and had to wait for James to turn up, sheltering under a hotel Portico whole we waited.

Deacon Brodie’s Restaurant

We had to then go and park James’s car and walk to lunch at “Deacon Brodie’s” restaurant in the Royal Mile. Lots of steps to climb – I had to have little rests on the way up.

The Deacon Brodie was great. I was able to have another Guinness as well as Haggis and Neeps along with Julia. The restaurant was busy so our meals took a long time to come and it was getting close to 1:15 when they arrived. However we were able to enjoy our meals and still get to the “Witches Tour” as it was only 5 minutes walk away in the rain.

The witch Jeannie was really good and provided lots of interesting information about the culture of the times – which was “persecute people who are different, especially women”.

We finished at about 3:00 pm and walked back to the cars. Did some shopping on the way home for whisky and so on. James got a flat tire right at the end as we came up the farm drive.
