Thursday 24th July - Selkirk
Thursday 24th July
Cloudy, sunny later and warm
Selkirk
I went to the Peony Rose in the middle of town for a morning coffee.
Although it is just a cafe people booked tables so you couldn’t just walk in order a coffee and sit down. You had to check with the waitress to see if there was a free table! I was allowed to order a coffee and was shown to a table, but told that someone had booked it for 10:30 so I would have to be gone!
After my coffee I then walked down to the Co-op to buy some cheese for lunch and a ready meal for dinner.

Next I walked down to Halliwell’s Close where the Selkirk Museum is.
Here is what the Close looks like inside now:
and what it used to look like:
The Museum in the Close was free to enter and was well set up. I bought a book about Borders History and got a map of the town. As the wi-fi in the AirBnB was pretty unstable I asked her if the Museum had wi-fi and if so could I use it. She said that the Museum did not provide Wi-Fi and that my best bet would be one of the Cafes.
Once finished in the Museum I came out into the town centre with a town clock:
and a statue of Sir Walter Scott who was sheriff of this town at one stage:
Last I walked a little way down Ettrick Terrace to photograph two beautiful old buildings:
1. Ettrick Dene
and Ettrick Lodge:
Do you like the "Craw stepped gables"? - steps for crows on the gables
