Thursday 17th July - Travel to Islay
A beautiful sunny morning.
James, Julia and Eliza and I set off at a reasonably early hour headed for Kennacraig, bu twe had to drive north round the top of Loch Lomond and the down the western side to get to the ferry terminal at Kennacraig.
We stopped at the Duck Bay Hotel for coffee looking out over Loch Lomond:
They had some beautiful potted flowers - Lobelia in particular:
We carried on to Tarbet where we stopped for lunch:
Someone discovered that Tarbet had a castle, so after lunch, we headed off for a look, but it seems that everywhere you go in Scotland there are always steps to climb, and always more than you feel like tackling:
However, at the top we did find a castle, built by Robert the Bruce in 1290:
... and there it was in front of us:
... with a great view out over the harbour:
From there we climbed back down and got on our way to the ferry terminal at Kennacraig.
There was the ferry with its jaws open ready to eat cars and trucks:
We had a pretty smooth two hour sailing across to Islay and drove to Bruicladdich where we found our AirBnB house:
Its name was Failte
If we turned round and looked the other way, it was right by the sea:
